NZ2.0

The first place I went looking for the application of Web 2.0 was in the education field thinking that those in education wuld be first off the mark. So after looking on the links on the CCL Internet Gateway I found was an RSS feed link on the Ministry of Education website. I thought the Te Kete Ipurangi site would have something but no! The Career Services had a link to follow them on twitter which was great.
AUT had 5 Rss feeds on different things, massey Uni had Encore ....and that is all I had time for.
NZ Live has blogs, RSS feeds, own account with people's preferences - this is certainly tailored to people to make it their own to suit them. The Museums are sharing within themselves and provide tags for searching as well as allow th public to add tags to a record. The Horowhenua District library has a Kete of their local history which people can add to. This is a great way to tap into local knowledge and resources. I think Matapihi could work like hat as well and allow the public to create records of their own old pictures, sound recordings etc and tag them.

In the cloud

I really enjoyed doing this Module as I could see the application of things discussed in my work and my personal life. Being able to log in anywhere and alter a document is fantastic and the ability for someone to edit it would be really useful too. I quite like the idea of Library Thing as a tool to remember what I have read and look for similar books. Also Erin suggested it could also be used for Storyline customers and keeping track of what they have read/listened to.

Google docs

Google Docs

This was really fun. Easy to use and can see me using it instead of using the 'M' drive which we won't have from the 1st November. I really liked the clean look of the Google docs as well. Also will use it at home so I have more free space on my computer.
Great to be able to access it from anywhere! And the edit feature is great!

Wikis

This was the most frustrating module so far. I couldn't figure out how to create a Wiki but did add something to Glenns. Then I couldn't log in to PBWiki even though I had set up an account, so have given up for the moment so I can get on with the other modules I have not even started. it's all very well "discovering" how to do it but when you are pressed for time it just gets frustrating.

Frustration!!!

Couldn't have a look at the other mashup things as the computer froze. Then it wouldn't let me go on to the next activity. This optional section will have to wait for another time. also Mozilla wasn't working when I started either.

Flickr Upload

My first go at CCLLearn this week! Have just done the Flickr upload to the CCL album and found it quite easy. I did ask Margot first to see if she was ok adding it. I had a Flickr account awhile ago but have forgotten my user name and password. Although I like the idea of Flickr for personal use I don't think I would go public with my own photos, except with friends and family.

Social Networking

I really enjoyed this module and hope to spend more time on the weekend adding some photos and having a play around on the Fendal Femails Network as have been short of time this week.

CCLlearn Ning

I found that network site very user friendly and easy to use. Nicely and clearly laid out and easy to see what to do and where to click. Posted a couple of comments - one about Facebook and one about how my library career started. Now just waiting for someone to start a network with me.

Facebook

As I already have a Facebook page I didn't have to set this up. I only set up the Facebook page because some friends who I met on my last holiday had put their photos on Facebook and I wanted to see them. I actually quite like Facebook and it has the added bonus of knowing what my sons are up to! They added me as a friend ('cos I didn't have many and they felt sorry for me!) and now I know what they have been up to in the last few hours, what they are planning on the weekend and explore their photos, know what their relationship status is etc. Mind you sometimes I don't want to know or wich I didn't know!
Before reading about social networking sites I didn't actually think about applying them to an organisation or business so see that potential now.
I still can't get excited about Twitter. Some people have too much time, however am prepared to change my mind!

Module on Widgets and Gadgets

have learnt a lot about Gadgets and putting them onto my Blogging page. Found this module a bit easier to achieve during the week, although have done some at home, which is where I do more of my trialling stuff. Put a gadget on the side bar and in the centre of it. I love the sidebar gadget as it is of artwork which changes. Also altered my blogging page and added a different photo. I find it hard to work alone and would prefer to work alongside someone doing the same activity so can discuss things or ask for help! Haven't had time for any of the optional activities as I am behind now.

Time.com top stories

Widgets

I had a look at the Google Widgets and could see some use for some of them like a calendar, currency converter etc. the more fun ones would be good on a Facebook page I guess. also looked at a couple of the library ones and the University of auckland one which was a catalogue search could be applied to CCL.

Podcasts

Had trouble adding Radio NZ Podcasts onto my iGoogle page. Went to the Free Internet training and Paul said you Radio NZ have not fixed it so that you can. If you have itunes you can add them to your itunes and listen from that. I managed to put it a Radio NZ news to my bloglines account though. Will come back to Podcasts later if I have time.

Podcasts

After thinking I had successfully put a Podcast on my iGoogle page I discovered it didn't work as you need itunes to listen to it. So I set up a Blogline account and although it has the title there is nothing there to listen to! I think I need some help here!!

RSS

Since I had an igoogle page already set up with my different categories I found it easeier to set up my RSS feeds on that rather than Google Reader. Have been meaning to add some RSS feeds to this for awhile but have't got around to it so this session has been great. Also used Firefox this time and the computer is a lot quicker. Also set up 2 RSS feeds for Library Journal and Library Management and Leadership Journal.

End of first Week

Well I can't say I am enjoying this blogging - I don't think i am a blogger. I am learning but finding it is not intuitive and have had to use the Help to learn how to add people in the group to my blog. This I find frustrates me as i prefer doing things myself rather than reading how to do it. In fact I have run out of time so haven't added everyone from the group to my blog. I could only spend 2 hours during the week at work and did a wee bit at home but don't intend using my precious weekends doing it. If I have time elsewhere through the course I will go back to it.
finding the time is the hardest thing at the moment.

So onto the RSS feeds!!

Week 1

Am struggling to find the time to get any work done on my CCLearn this week as have had 2 lots of training and a morning meeting. However I have done the Adult Learning part which was a refresher for me as I have done the Adult Teaching Certificate. I also read through the list of technologies which are current at the moment. It is quite mind boggling, looking at what is around and the pace of change, but it's also quite exciting!

First Session

This is my first blog. Easy enough to set up but will need more practice using it and posting blogs.
I'm sure it is fun once you get used to it.
